A freelancer, or freelance is a person who pursues a profession without a long term commitment to any one employer. Why would a person note enter a long term commitment to any employer because it gives the person flexibility to choose the working hours. choose the projects to work on and build a portfolio based on the work done for the clients.

There are lots of jobs available online for you to take on a per project basis.

As with anything there are positives and negatives to freelancing. On  one hand freelancing will give you the freedom you are looking for but on the other you only get paid for what you do and you dont get the feeling of job security and there would be no pay during the times when you dont work. That extra cushion is not available in freelancing, however i think all that is required to be a good freelancer is mental adjustment.

The idea of freelancing is on my mind since so many days, however till i get settled in life i most likely will continue working for an employer.
