AOL today launched its India Portal. Along with it it also launched mail, messenger and video and content services.
The Portal’s interface is simple and clean. In fact it AOL did a wonderful job when compared to Yahoo India’s home page. I think Yahoo’s home page is cramped little bit.
When it comes to mail, AOL was disappointing for me. I registered the phani[at]aol[dot]in email address and when i logged in i was not able to open the welcome message. Why ?? no idea.
I first thought it was due to my firefox compatibility so tried in IE but there was no use. After fiddling long time i figured it was due to my connection speed and opened the slow connection version of the portal. Mind you my connection speed is decent enough, around 32kbps.
AOL has a loooooooooooooooong way to go even to entertain thoughts of competing with Yahoo and Google. Visit the portal here.

Well..you say Yahoo site is crappy. But AOL is building their site just like Yahoo!. Check the beta of new AOL http://www.aol.com/?optin=beta3

AOL India portal’s main page is much better than Yahoo India because of less advts. For me yahoo’s page is little bit cramped (not crappy). Even though AOL copied Yahoo, it reduced the ads on the front page and that to me is better than the original.
